Cowrie is named after the shells that gave their name to porcelaine. It is so significant to humanity from traditional jewelry in almost all parts of the world, to the most widely used shell money (one of our first trade currencies). From Asia, India, Africa to America, and of course, the Islands of the world, this shell has meaning to most. It reaches so far throughout cultures that is almost feels like it unites us all as a natural human adornment. In Mende (Liberia) culture as in others, cowrie shells are viewed as symbols of womanhood, fertility, birth and wealth.
The Cowrie earrings are composed of hand dyed vintage fan shaped lace mounted on a brass wire hoops with small cowrie shells dangling from it. Available in a large variety of colours including beige sand, desert rose (dusty pink), magenta, coral, terracotta, mustard (ochre), light yellow, black, white, navy, light blue, burgundy, teal, evergreen emerald and moss green.

Earrings measures approximately 8 cm long by 4 cm wide (extremity of shells).
Each earring weighs approximately 4.5 grams. The pair weighs about 9 grams total. (weight varies slightly depending on shells.
